This is a COLLAB assignment between :iconreedpiper: and myself
Collaboration on the MOnsters Exam for Devacademy. Between me and ~Reedpiper. Using our Ocs Kiran and Hugin.

WE had to divide it into two parts, seeing as we were not sure if we would be able to draw out another little image strip. Since its pretty close to the exam finals. So we rp'd out the last portion. And put it down below. So beware of a big HUNK of text. And if you dont want to read it. They do get rid of the leviathan...or just make it go home. They were very annoying.

Part Two of the Exam

Kiran looked at what she could only assume to be the Leviathan looming over her, mouth drooling. Panic rose up in her and every hair on the back of her neck stood straight up. She clutched Hugin a bit tighter, making her knuckles turn white. She barely managed a squeak... which was silly, since as she had ironically stated before, it was a relief that these things did not eat humans.

Gazing over at the beast, Hugin felt a flicker of fear passing through for a moment, only to be brought out of his zoned out state by a harsh pinching on his arm. Letting out a hiss, he looked down at Kiran. Who seemed to be working on suffocating his arm as they stood there. "I-I think I need my arm for this Kiran!" he hissed out lowly, hoping to not attract the monsters attention. "It doesn't eat humans, remember??"

Kiran shut her eyes tightly. She didn't care what the monster did or didn't do, it was scary. But she did release her grip on Hugin's arm slightly. She was obviously being of no use to actually finish the assignment. Sooner or later, the leviathan would break their fail excuse of a boat

Hugin let out a relieved sigh as the blood went back into his arm, only forgetting the large snakelike presence that was currently eyeing them both... though only for a moment. Letting out a squeak when he saw it he turned to Kiran. "I didn't know there was going to be a boat!" he silently yelled at her, hoping the serpent looked elsewhere. "Water was not in the original plan!"

Kiran shushed Hugin immediately. She didn't want to startle the thing, though it seemed Hugin only just noticed their situation. "I know! It wasn't in my plan either, but what could i expect??" she returned a fierce gaze to Hugin, attempting to score a point in their silent blame-game.

"Well what are we going to do?! What if it decides to knock us over?! I am not a good swimmer!" he growled, getting annoyed that she had the gall to even shush him once, voice steadily getting louder as he ranted. Eventually ending the rant with a slight flail of his arm before he noticed the monster again. "w-whatever! lets just get this done fast!"

Kiran nodded a little terrified. At least he stopped yelling toward the end. She let go of his arm very cautiously, as if she were afraid Hugin would disappear the instant she let go. She sighed a little when he in fact did not vanish into thin air when Kiran let go. Out of habit, her hands found each other, locking the fingers tightly. she didn't particularly feel like getting wet either, but that wasn't exactly an option at the moment. "Hugin, are we supposed to kill it?" Kiran whimpered, barely daring to make a sound lest she startle the now-approaching sea monster.

Hugin eyed the monster as it eyed them, giving a small frown as he watched. "N-no...I don't think we have to kill it...not at all...remember the plan Kiran, we should be fine....its just a bit awkward on a boat," he said with a small nervous laugh, carefully slipping the homework paper into his cloak for safe keeping. "Ready....?" he asked, already gathering a dark colored energy around his fingers, where it flickered surprisingly calmly.

Kiran blinked, noting that Hugin was most likely preparing some sort of magical attack. She too, loosened her fingers and connected the pals, pulling them apart slowly. She hoped Hugin just knew from habit that whenever it was a stressful situation, the only magic she could do was literally blinding. " i think so" she said.

Watching his own energy as he tried to form it in a more partial form, he paused to look over. "Come on Kiran, just think of it like a big fish, cause that what it is, a big BIG fish....." he muttered quietly to her as he watched the movements of the snakelike body. "And what do you do with fish~?"

At first, she stared dumbly at Hugin. It dawned on her practically a second later what Hugin meant. Of course! People catch fish with a net... but wait, where does the net come from? Kiran looked over to Hugin, then back at her own hands. She didn't see how the could make one in a few seconds. h=Hopefully he had some plan of his own. The only magic they successfully made that lasted was a light orb, the orb made of Hugin's magic, the liquid-like light inside, hers. "wait, Hugin, where do we get a net?" she said.

Hugin frowned, thinking it over. "Ah..that's a good question," he said, pausing before glaring at her. "H-hey! Why don't you think too!" he hissed out, embarrassed by his inability to come up with a plan fast. Letting out a string of grumbles he thought it over, not sure how to make a net. "Err...well..." he muttered out, letting out a squeak as the serpent made a sudden jerky movement, surprising him. "FREAKING MONSTERS! never again!" he growled. "Lets just make one!, that works!"

"m-MAKE ONE?" Kiran yelled accidentally as the movement the serpent made caused a wave and rocked the small boat back and forth violently. Kiran stumbled, barely able to grasp onto the edge of the little thing, interrupting her current. Apparently, the sea monster decided to get bored with them and mess with them. Defiantly, she started up another current as fast as she could, only noting that the monster lifted its tail high up in the air to prepare another large splash. Panicked by the lack of a plan, the sudden realization that it would be very difficult to fish out a monster larger than them in this small boat in the middle of nowhere, and the possibility of failing the class when she had come so close...

"MAKE ONE YOU BRAT! YOU WEAVE NETS DONT YOU!" he hissed out, clinging to his own side of the boat as the waters rocked it, gripping tightly so he didn't fall. "We WEAVED that ball didn't we!? With our energy! So we can weave a little wussy net too! Just to trap it!" he said loudly, deciding that since the monster was already attacking, or splashing, that it would be fine to do so. He had to let something out.

Kiran shook. Weaving? What did he think she was, a housewife? She could barely tape together a shabby paper box. Although, it was worth a try, she supposed, to direct her energy back and forth like a net~ she doubted that it would work, but at least it would satisfy Hugin, for a minute or so. She gulped, letting go of the boat, suddenly becoming very sea sick. She fought down the sudden immediate urge to throw up over the side of the boat, forcing herself to start her current up again, moving it up into the air. The monster's tail came down with a mighty splash, creating a wave that easily threw the small boat up into the air. The boat came down with a mighty splash, and Kiran heard a slight cracking noise. Pure fear and horror coursed her body instantly, causing her to immediately close off the current and clutch whatever was nearest to her. She couldn't cast in water, shes be too busy swimming. Why did it have to be so hard?

Hugin stood up carefully, trying to hold himself steady as the waters rocked them about, like a toy in a small tub for children. "Who would of thought they would stick us in a freaking lake with the thing...." he said in annoyance, walking over to where Kiran was more carefully, trying not to fall over. "Here! I know how to weave you brat, I can try to help you..." he said with another hiss, taking a spot near her more, sitting down on the floor of their small row boat. only to have himself knocked over by the sudden wave, letting out a small cry and gripping the side of the boat to try to stay afloat. "I shouldn't of left my freaking room," he said with a hiss as the wave died down after a moment. "Kiran??" he said loudly, looking around before noticing the boat was in a bad ways. Damaged by the wave that had just hit them.

Kiran let out a whimper. Why did she take this task upon herself? It was too scary! She shut her eyes and hugged herself. Something was wet under her, and it was cold. She opened her eyes just a slit, and found a puddle forming under her slowly. She was sitting on the crack in the boat, and it was filling up with water. Kiran let out a shriek. They were sinking slowly. She broke out into a cold sweat, her hands shook uncontrollably. She shot up from her seat, turning around to take a look at her sitting spot, wiping her wet rump at the same time. "ALRIGHT SHOW ME TO WEAVE DAMMIT" Kiran hollered at Hugin, hoping to get the situation over with as soon as possible. It was too much for one day. She slapped her hands together and ripped them apart, starting up her current again, glaring at the monster. It seemed to grin back, amused at their anguish.

Hugin growled right back at her yelling, rushing over to the crack that seemed to form from the sudden wave. Placing his hands over it he muttered something under his breath, black energy starting to fill into the large crack, momentarily cutting off the flow over water. There, at least they wouldn't drown quite yet, though he didn't give his little stopper much time. Letting out a low growl he stood back up, noticing that she had started up her energy, he eyed the long bands of light for a moment before shaking his head. "Its not hard," he said, making a face that said if she asked him HOW he knew, he would kill her. "Here, just get out some of those bands, like before, and Ill show you," he said again, voice tense as he did his best to ignore the sea monster. Instead trying to force his own unhappy energy into a more thread like form, despite the fuzziness around the edges.

Kiran bit her lip, waiting for Hugin to start his little knitting tutorial in the middle of an attack. No matter, if it got them out of here, she didn't care. Kiran took a deep breath, ignoring Hugin's looks. Shed ask him later about that. "ok, now what?" she said, noting that Hugin was beginning to force his energy into a thread-like form. Would this work? Technically, her energy was just incandescent light. She hoped Hugin had some real way to make this work, or at least convince her that he did. for now, Kiran remained unconvinced that Hugin could pull this off.

Hugin grumbled, trying to keep his energy in a solid form to get this to work, attaching various strings of energy together. Forming connections to every few strands to form a very crummy, but obvious net like structure. Though the energy seemed to flair up now and than, causing small paper cut like cuts along his fingertips. "See!?" he hissed out. "Energy net ok~? Here, why don't I do this and you just distract that monster of a dragon thing!" he said, pointing over fast at where the serpent currently was eyeing them.

Kiran looked at him in surprise. Ok then, Hugin goes to make the net, Kiran goes to distract the monster. Good plan. Sort of. Kiran sighed, turning around to the monster. Anger flared up insider her, as she suddenly had the irresistible urge to smack that thing. She didn't know how to distract it really, besides blind it with a lot of light, though maybe that's all it would take.

Hugin let out a sigh of relief once he went back to the net, though it was sort of shoddy job, he really didn't often mess with his energy in this sense. But at least he was calming down just a bit. even stooped over in a big puddle of water. Instead he focused on dragging various energy, carefully pulling it along to weave into the net, energy zapping around his hands. "This is stupid, we should of brought a net with us!" he growled as he got the net a bit bigger, trailing it along in the water. "How are we going to get it over the thing??"

Kiran eyed the thing evilly. It seemed to become unamused and dived under the surface. Kiran's face went blank. "wait... what?" The waters remained calm. She looked to Hugin confusedly. Was this supposed to happen? From her point of view, she could just barely see the dark blob that signified the monster was still there. She shrugged, enjoying the few seconds of peace that she had. "what was that all about?" she turned to Hugin, who was busy making the net. It was fascinating, watching the energies come together. It grew fairly large, still hovering in the air slightly as certain parts if it seemed to look solid.

"Huh? what was what about?" he asked, looking up, face showing a flicker of confusion as he realized that the serpent was gone. "Ah...where did it go?" he asked confused, the wide net slowly drifting off carefully along the water, a purple and black mess of energy, letting out odd flashes of flickering lights, as if it was on fire. Though Hugin didn't realize as it spread across the water, holding onto one end carefully as he stared up at Kiran confused. "Did it leave...?"

"Hugin!" Kiran pointed over to the net that was drifting off. "Its going away!" she said, a little annoyed. She sighed. Just then, the black blob started growing bigger, rightttt under the now disintegrating net. It was rising to the surface right under the net! If only it were completed in time.... Kiran balled her hands into fists. She had no idea how to fix the thing up. Hugin would have to make another one fast.

Hugin growled, looking over at the net. "Shut up Kiran! I can see that!" he said in annoyance, trying to change the net with some more of his energy, the woven strands starting to darken in color, til they were more black than purple. "Don't just stand there!" he said in annoyance as he continued to mess with the energy. Adding more to the net. "Here! Just add some of your crazy bands to it why don't you?? The net is already woven, you just need to follow the dots!"

Kiran hurriedly did as Hugin said, wondering if he simply failed to realize the situation. Without wasting another second, Kiran snapped out her energy, easily moving it along the lines to and fro along Hugin's. She wondered if her own magic acted differently with Hugins because of some property of Hugins magic, for it held like a solid (albeit glowing) thread. As she moved the substance in and about the net, hoping to reinforce it somehow, the dark blob grew bigger even faster, signaling that it was rising to the surface. Kiran barely had time to blink as the monster shot up through the surface on the water, knocking her back from the shock.

Hugin didn't realize as the blob got bigger, mostly focusing on the net he was holding his his hands, only to get knocked back with Kiran, hitting the other side of the boat hard with a cough. He could hear the waves hitting the side of the boat from the force, causing them to rock back and forth. Looking up he saw that the net was still intact, even if it was flickering oddly from the different energies. Covering the head of the creature as it tried to wave it off with little success.

Kiran looked up. the net, so far,was a success. It covered the creatures head fairly well. Maybe that's all they needed. Kiran turned to look at Hugin as she got up. He was in pretty bad shape. "you ok?" she asked him.

"Im fine!" he hissed, up, sitting up fast to make it seem like he was. He eyed the monster while it trashed about in the net, unable to free its head or jaws from the net that was stuck on it. "What now??" he asked, shaking his head and getting water all over.

Kiran shielded herself unsuccessfully from the sprinkling fest Hugin made. "eww" she grumbled, rubbing her arms when Hugin was quite finished. ".. it really seems to dislike having a net over its jaws. maybe same goes for its fins?" she offered. not that it was a particularly big feature, since this was a sea serpent. The leviathan, however, was not amused. It rushed over to the boat, preparing to make its little captains suffer. Out of panic, Kiran yelled. She smacked her hands togetherwanting it to go away, fast! She let out a burst of blinding light, hopefully not hurting Hugin either. When she was done, she panted hard, but found to her utter relief that it broke the leviathans charge, as it now flailed about violently on the surface from pain and swimming to the depths in a few seconds. The aforementioned black blob, however, did not stray too far from the boat.

Hugin looked up to watch the small blob in the water, showing where the leviathan was hiding under the waters dark surface. He stared for a moment before looking at Kiran with a frown. "What now? Should be just try to get out of here??" he asked, an annoyed tone coming out as he looked down at the crack in the boat where water was gradually starting to leak in again. "Why don't you do that blinding thing?? Maybe it'll scare it away?" he said as he looked back to the water. "Who likes having lights flashed at their face?!"

Kiran pouted. "You want me to do it again?" she asked surprised. There was no way she could reach to this depth. "I think we can just drive it away with some more of those strings. i bet the old one is still stuck on its nose!" she said.

Hugin looked down into the water with a small nod, able to see the various strings as they glowed occasionally in the water. "well how do you propose that we do that Kiran??" he asked confused.

Reed: Kiran stared at the water. After a minute, she shrugged. "same as before?" she said, helplessly. "i don't know, Hugin. But we cant exactly row away a damaged boat..." she sighed, trying not to think of her wet behind.

Hugin let out an annoyed growl. "Fine, your a light specialist, do you know how to shock at all? Isn't lightning a part of light elemental energy? Why not just shock the thing??" he asked, staring over at her. “I can cut, but I'm not sure if a creature that big would notice cuts.”

Kiran whimpered. "What do you think I am, a mage? This is the best i can do! I'm not a light specialist! Besides, lighting is static electricity, not light, in a true sense!" Kiran yelled back. The dark blob in the water grew larger as the leviathan eventually regained its sight. and it was pissed.

Hugin let out a shocked yelp, staring at the thing as it emerged yet again. “Fine, fine! My energy is violent enough to cut, I suppose that will work just as fine! If I pass out I expect you to not let me drown you brat!” he growled, energy already starting to lash around him as his annoyance level crawled up steadily, the net reacting too. Bursts of energy lashing out from the strands, energy moving along them like pathways. “Brat!”

Kiran ducked instinctively as the beast ripped through the surface of the water, sending its splash everywhere. The monster growled, making Kiran look up. The net was literally coming apart into what looked like shards. It didn't seem to do much damage at first glance, but it was making some of the scales on its back flake off, revealing its tuna-colored delicate skin. "Hugin, attack it right there!" Kiran said, pointing toward the back of leviathans head. Surely if it were hit there, it would be very painful. "Hugin?" Kiran looked back to him. He looked exhausted.

Hugin looked up at her when she said that, confused for a moment before noticing where she was pointing, blinking a few times as he stared at the coloration. Skin? The net had rubbed of a few of its scales perhaps? Deciding to go along with what she said he muttered a new spell, trying to direct all of the energy that was fading away from the net towards the broken scales, energy racing along the strings to the spot to hit it hard, cutting away at whatever was near it.

Kiran didnt even have the chance to blink as the monster shrieked the most ugly sound she ever heard. It flung itself into the air, then back under, then back up again, causing the boat to rock dangerously. At one point it almost tipped over. Score! Leviathan, 0, Hugin and Kiran, 1. After several minutes of extreme waters, the surface grew quiet. The leviathan slowly surfaced, giving a long hard glare at the girl and then boy, before snorting and diving back into the depths. This time, nothing indicated its presence nearby. With that, Kiran whistled and attempted to high-five Hugin.

Hugin let out a surprised noise, clinging to the side of the boat, energy he had out all vanishing quickly, flickering out of existence as the serpent vanished into the water. “Well at least that's over wit-” he started, not noticing Kiran trying to high five him, accidentally hitting him on the side of the head. “KIRAN!”

Kiran stopped to realize what happened, then giggled. She was sure he'd get her later for it, but now all she could do was laugh uncontrollably, barely managing a "sorry" as she guffawed, sitting down in the boat-- in a chair. Kiran looked around confusedly. "ahh, the demo is over now~" she said. She turned to look at Hugin, but as soon as she did, she instantly started laughing again.

Hugin scowled at her, but decided not to whack her one. He was sure he had the time later to do it. Instead he stood up with what he hoped was a good hmph, waved his wet sleeve at her and stormed off. Slipping now and than due to the wetness. “Yes yes, har dee har har~” he said sarcastically. Though he was relieved that it was over. Letting out a small smile as he wandered back to his dorm.
